I have a paypal claim of $580 laid on me by a Ukranian buyer. She says I sent an empty box instead of an iphone. I sent an iphone. She is either lying or the box was rifled along the way. I sent this via Express mail from the USPS, uninsured. What recourse do I have? I have the paper work saying that the box weighed 2 pounds.
Unfortunately I am leaving the country for a month starting in 2 days and paypal will probably want info for me during that time.
Just to clarify, it was a Ukranian buyer, not Russian. I have had good luck shipping to Russia.

I also think maybe I should choose the option that I would give a refund after they send the item back. If they choose to send it back, I won't be here to claim it and I'll just tell my roommate not to sign for any packages from Russia.
I know somebody is going to tell me not to send iphones internationally as it's too risky. Valid point. But I sold 300 iphones this spring before Apple changed to a 1-per-person policy. Most went internationally for a pretty profit and I haven't lost a dispute on one yet. I did tell myself that I was going to loose one or two before I started though.

Offer a refund upon return. That you will not be in the country to accept the package isn't a factor a buyer should have to consider. It's your responsibility to be accessible for returns or servicing returns/refunds, etc.
I wouldn't issue a refund otherwise. They can initiate a claim if they like, and perhaps you can lose. Such is the risk of doing business to the third world as I'm sure you know.
If they paid via paypal the whole buyer protection thing gets even weaker than it already is. If they can't win through paypal, they can do a chargeback if they paid by credit and then paypal will deduct funds, even if they sided with you initially.
I sure see you on here a lot jobi. You must do a lot of business, as you consistently run into scammer buyers and sellers alike.

It's been an interesting year for me. I've sold over $500K this year, my second biggest year was only $50K. I've finally gone "full time". Most of my transactions go off without a hitch, but there's always the odd bad apple. My feedback was 3000+/99.8% positive before the feedback changes. Now it's calculated at 99.3%. Anyhoo... thanks for always responding.
